Smart and Skilled (NSW) - Terms and Conditions

1         Eligibility for Smart and Skilled funding

A Smart and Skilled student is an employee who is enrolled in a nationally recognised course of study that is funded by the state. To be eligible for training under Smart and Skilled, students must meet the initial criteria:

  • 15 years old or over

  • No longer at school

  • Living or working in NSW

  • An Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, humanitarian visa holder or New Zealand citizen.

Eligibility can be identified through the Smart and Skilled eligibility calculator found at: https://smartandskilled.nsw.gov.au/are-you-eligible but will be determined once a Commitment ID has been created. Trainees must be withdrawn from routine work duties, with pay, for a minimum of 3 hours per week, averaged over a 4-week period, for the purpose of undertaking formal training/ learning/assessment activities.

2         Smart and Skilled Student Contribution Fees

Invoices for students will be generated and sent to the Client after students are approved for funding. All invoices are to be finalised within 30 days of issue. The payment amounts consist of the compulsory Student Contribution Fees. 3         Smart and Skilled Traineeship Cancellation

Strategix must be notified of all cancellations using the NSW cancellation form:

  • Withdrawals prior to the training commencing, will be able to withdraw without penalty and receive a full refund of any fees paid

  • Withdrawals after course commencement will receive a pro-rata refund, which will be calculated based on the progress of the individual student.

*Under the NSW Government Fee Free Traineeship initiative, New Entrants who commence training on or after 1 January 2020 may be eligible for fee-free training. Fee Free is limited to a maximum of commencing three fee-free traineeships under this initiative.
