Progression Plan

The purpose of this Intervention Progression Plan is to assist and support students to fulfil their academic and clinical responsibilities within the Diploma of Nursing. It is to be engaged when a student has been identified as not achieving the desired outcomes of a unit of competency or when the assessor/supervisor deems them to be at risk of failure or not achieving the learning objectives of practice during the placement, including not meeting the NMBA Standards for Enrolled Nurses. Intervention

Progression on Placement (PEP) Guidelines

...

  • Students identified as having attendance issues, at-risk behaviour or not making satisfactory progress with the placement part of the course will be contacted immediately and counselled by their trainer. An Intervention A Progression Plan will be completed to document the conversation and any corrective actions to be taken

  • Students deemed to be at risk of not achieving the learning objectives:

    • Corrective actions are to be completed by the student within a set time frame, usually between two and five PEP days

    • Failure to achieve the corrective actions will result in the student failing the PEP component of the course and the student will be removed from placement

    • Further support will then be provided to the student, and they can be re-assessed to ensure that their area of incompetency is rectified. If so, they will be given another opportunity to complete their placement; if not, they will be terminated from the course.

  • Students demonstrating unsafe work practice will immediately be removed from the placement venue. The workplace assessor will notify the Head of Discipline/Clinical Placement Coordinator immediately.
