PROCEDURE

Learner Needs Analysis Procedure - Schools

To meet our regulatory requirements under Clause 1.7 of the RTO Standards, we must determine a student’s support needs and provide access to appropriate services to enable the student to meet the requirements of their course.

In courses delivered in schools or to school student cohorts, this is achieved by the students completing the Learner Needs Analysis assessment on Cloud Assess. The trainer then reviews this information and a support framework is determined.

Steps:

  • The Course Coordinator or other person enrols the student in the course. The Learner Needs Analysis is automatically added as an assessment in each schools-based course

  • The trainer releases the Learner Needs Analysis assessment to the student at their induction

  • Student completes the assessment without assistance from trainers, except to clarify/re-word questions where required

  • Trainer marks assessment as per the Marking Guide included on Cloud Assess:

    • If the student gets 1 or no questions correct in the literacy/language and/or numeracy support section:

      • Discuss with the school and determine whether support is already being provided or will be provided, taking into consideration any additional support needs identified. If so, select “The student requires further LLN assistance from the school/LLN provider” and record a note in the Trainer Feedback section, e.g. Discussed with school and they confirmed they are currently providing literacy/numeracy support to the student

      • If the school is unable to provide additional support, the trainer must have an informal interview with the student to determine whether the trainer can provide the support necessary for the student to complete the course. If yes, select “The student requires assistance during the course to help them participate in training and assessment” and record a note in the Trainer Feedback section, e.g. After a discussion with the student, and based on the requirements of the course, it was determined that the student will be able to continue with the course with additional in-class support provided by the trainer such as mentoring in numeracy/literacy concepts.

        • If the trainer has concerns about the student completing the course with support from the school and/or trainer, they must speak to their manager for further direction.

    • If the student gets 2-3 questions correct in the literacy/language and/or numeracy support section and the additional support needs are manageable, select “The student requires reasonable adjustments to the training and assessment process”

    • If the student gets 4-5 questions correct in the literacy/language and/or numeracy support section and the additional support needs are manageable, select “The student does not require any further assistance in the course at this stage”.

  • Trainer outcomes the assessment as “Satisfactory”. A “Not Satisfactory” outcome is only used when it is determined that the support required for the student to complete the course cannot be provided by either the school or Strategix.
